How would you describe the men of Lambda Chi Alpha? If you are reading this, please just take a minute to think about this question. It is our hope that you can answer this question without much thought, in a positive manner. If you cannot, I challenge you to reply, comment or reach out to us and help us understand why we aren’t viewed as highly as we’d like to be and what we can do to attempt to change that opinion in your mind.
As men of Lambda Chi Alpha, we strive for greatness in everything we do in life. Our core values are what we aim to describe us. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service & Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. These are the values that we all adhere to. EVERY. SINGLE. BROTHER. One of the things our chapter at Simpson College is most proud of is our dedication to service.
Theta-Lambda Zeta has been in the top 20% of chapters internationally in total food collected for Feeding America, our sponsor organization for 3 consecutive years. In total, we have raised over 100,000 pounds of food in the last 3 years and Lambda Chi Alpha has raised more than 9.5 MILLION pounds nationwide since 2013. Our chapter hosts 2-3 food drives in Indianola per semester as well as several other small events. We also try to host a “teeter/totter-athon” once a year. For this event, we have brothers sitting on a teeter/totter for 48 hours straight in locations around Indianola/Des Moines. All proceeds from this event have gone to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Iowa in the past, but we plan on looking into giving to the Brain Tumor Association in honor of Jake Hartvigsen, a brother who passed away last February. Another service event we do is through the IDOT Adopt-a-Highway program. We have a 2-mile section of Highway 65 just outside of Indianola and we clean it once per semester.
Other than service opportunities, Lambda Chi Alpha also has a strong focus on being involved in other campus organizations. One of our standards is that every brother is involved in at least one other organization or team other than the fraternity. Because of this expectation, we have brothers involved in a variety of different groups and organizations including; the Simpson College Cancer Awareness Club, SC Rotoract Club, Computer Sciences Club, Accounting Club, Actuary Club, IFC, Climbing Club, Music @ Simpson, Fandom Club, Pre-Health Society and even Honors Fraternities on campus. As you can see, we have brothers in nearly every part of Simpson College in nearly every interest possible. If you are a Simpson student, look for our brothers around campus and in the organizations & groups you are involved in.
Stay tuned for weekly updates on chapter operations, events and future possibilities for interaction. Thank you for taking time to read (and hopefully respond with suggestions) our new blog. Please feel free to share and comment on the post as well as encourage others to do so.
Also, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about Lambda Chi Alpha, Theta-Lambda Zeta, or our future content, please feel free to reach out to Matt Lash, our VP of External Affairs, at [email protected] or (319)-431-7687.
